MITHYA Vs BHEJA FRY

Two different movies but almost the same cast: Vinay Pathak, Ranveer Shorey and Rajat Kapoor. Although Rajat is associated with Mithya he is not acting in it. I think it’s a right decision that he chose not to act. I felt he would not have fitted into any of the characters.

Bheja Fry is a painfully hilarious movie. Vinay did a great job and I loved the movie. It’s a movie, where you don’t have to think too hard. Just enjoy and try not to derive any morals out of it. Well you can actually, something like “Don’t make fun of others; it might boomerang”. I enjoyed watching Bheja Fry although Vinay’s character got into my nerves. Vinay’s character was all ga ga about himself all the time.

Arindam Chaudhuri’s (author of “Count Your Chicken Before They Hatch” fame) Mithya I think was a much media hyped movie. From the promos it seemed like it’s a comedy flick. So the anticipation of the movie was high with “Bheja Fry” to back it up. In the opening week the multiplexes went houseful, but failed to create any impact on the masses. I am not sure what the story wanted to convey. They were trying hard to give a moral but I got confused what should be derived out of it, like

1. Make sure your face does not resemble any gangster, if it does God help you.
2. Don't be a struggling actor and get kidnapped.
3. Don’t fall from high ground and loose your memory.

I think the author had a fight with his girlfriend/wife when he penned down the ending of the story and so he decided to kill the protagonist and his female counterpart, too bad, quite an ironic ending. Nasir, an actor with great potential does not have much of a part to play and his acting skills were under utilized. With his jazzy clothes he looked more of a 70’s rock star with the fading effects of Elvis. I personally didn’t like the movie but you will like it if black comedy is in your interest list.
